Until recently, non-communicable diseases have been neglected in medical texts for Africa and diabetes was regarded as rare. However, diabetes is now considered a major health problem and challenge throughout the African continent. This book provides a unique overview of the epidemiology and manifestations of diabetes in Africa, as well as a geographical snapshot of the situation in 18 individual countries. It concludes with a series of chapters covering special aspects of African diabetes care such as childhood, cultural, ethnic, and dietary problems.
