Helping Children Who are Deaf 2004

The simple activities in this book were developed by families with children who are deaf or cannot hear well, deaf adults, community-based development and health workers, educators and other experts in over 17 countries. The activities can help parents, caregivers, health and rehabilitation workers and others, teach deaf children how to communicate to the best of their abilities. Topics include: why young children need to learn a spoken or sign language and how to teach them, assessing how much a child can hear, developing communication, listening and social skills, supporting parents, educating a deaf child, preventing child sexual abuse, and preventing deafness. With support, encouragement, and the guidance included in this book, deaf children can grow and participate fully in their families and communities.
